Well my girlfriend has bought me some Depo's for Valentines day  anyway, been reading up in the Haynes and it says to take out/re fit headlights, you have to drop the front bumper.
Is this actually needed when fitting Depo's of thoughs that have done it before? Also, how easy is it to remove the electric height adjustment bit on the back of the lights?

I did it without dropping the bumper was pretty straight forward, but would probably have been easier to as you get more room, and there is less chance of breaking any clips. The electric adjuster was an absolute pig to remove  broke one of my standard headlights when i was swapping mine because it was between my legs while i used two hands to pull and it slipped and hit the floor  Either get someone to hold it while you pull or be more careful than i was!

Yeah, that does the girlfriend has the week off so she'll hopefully be giving me a helping hand. Dropping the bumper doesn't look too difficult according to Haynes, just a case of undoing lots of screws and clips.
Also, did you have to seal yours better with a bit of sealant?

Should only need to do the two for the grill the two for the bumper near the grill and the arch ones either side, and then it should lever forward enough

i wish i had your girlfriend. mine doesn't buy me car parts just aftershave lol.
when i changed my headlight it was just a clip out clip in thing. but then again, it was smashed

I did it without taking off the bumper. Had wheel off and everything ready to take it out and I dunno why but gave it a wee pull and it popped out!
Just loosen the two screws at the top and pull it down.
Watch out for the clips when putting the light back in. I didnt know about them and just pushed it in and crack. Wondered why it wasnt wanting to go in

It also says in the Haynes to disconnect the negative battery terminal, is this necessary or are they just covering their backs?

Nah leave the battery, i would'nt take it off. Just change them with the lights switched off obviously and it'll be fine.

Well, just fitted them without dropping the bumper, was a bit fiddly but managed to do it. For the drivers side one I had to take of the air intake pipe.
I thought the passenger side connection was dodgy as the headlight wasn't working, turned out the filament had gone. Went to Halfords and replaced both. Got some 'Brilliance' ones which were supposedly 30% brighter but I cannot see a difference - and they set me back £19.98
Think the headlights need aligning though, is that likely?

Yes most likley...
Too late now if you have swapped them, but I did mine by parking up facing the garage (or wall) then marking on the garage door where your headlights aim at (i used masking tape on where the brightest bit it)
Then when your new headlights are on just adjust to these marks
Might not be 100% but seems ok lol

Do you mean adjusting the whole light unit or just the bulbs inside?

There is a bit on the electronic adjuster you can twist to align up or down and there should be a small one on top of the light unit which does left and right

The one on the electronic adjuster you can do with your hand the other one you need a socket, unsure what size though, but there is a whole in the car fram just above where it is on the headlight, good luck
And get pics up tomorrow

Will do pics in my Projects and Builds thread. The one on the top of the Depo's which you access through a hole in the slam panel bar thing is a philips screwdriver
How would I know if left and right is ok though?

yeah theyre not that good those ones, i got the super blue ones and theyre really good for the lanes round here got mine buy one get one free aswell

That's a bit poo then. The standard ones are a lot cheaper.
I suppose they aren't much different 'cause Depo's are darker, so they are just as bright as standard lights with normal bulbs. Put the 'Brilliance' bulbs in standard lights and they'd be pretty good.
Right, I'm going to try out my Depo's down some country lanes and try adjusting them too It's a shame my drive way/garage is on a slope.
