car failed the mot today on a bit of rust and emissions, it was 1% over. how can i get round this lol without buying a new cat

meet a very good friend who happens to be a mechanic and an mot tester!!!! secind habd cats are a bit of a risk as i think if they have been lying around for a while they tend to be no good?

how many re tests did he do, or did he do one test and fail u on 1%

if the cats goin get it fixed
also change the cts and lambda.
check fuleing aswell
the emissions are out for a reason fix it
dont cover it up

he did it twice it is ment to be 0.30 and first time it was 0.53 and then 0.31 the second time.

he said the lambda is fine

well with it coming down as far as that he should have done a third test, i would complain, cos now you hae to pay a re test fee

theres an additive we use called 'cataclean' its really good stuff, especialy seen as its only 1% out

And put some optimum fuel in it... a full tank, use it for a bit (if u can) and then have it tested...

Don't they say if you take your airbox/induction kit totally off and go for a blast, then stick it back on just before the test then it's ok

Even so, my car has no cats and I always pass MOTs

personnally it maybe the cat was not hot enough. Before you take it next thrash the shit out of it to get it very warm

My mayes car took about 20 mins once to get through the emissions as the cat was no where near warm enough

give it a wee thrash before going in for the mot

when i worked at the garage and we did mot's if it failed on emissions, we'd take it a run up the road and back, and try again

90% of the time it would then pass
