Can't imagine this one going ahead, but there are talks of MoT tests being done every 2 years, sounds great at first.
But what about the people that don't actually bother to maintain their cars. No brakes and tyres Hmmm...

I can see this being bad for the reasons you say but also if it were every 2 years then there would be 2 years worth of work to do to get it through rather than 1! So cost alot more!

Stupid idea, theres cars that should'nt be on the road having to mot every year, with 2 its just asking for trouble. The government need to get a grip.

imho it might help more to keep cars in track if it was on a set mileage and/or 6 month period instead...
as said, the amount of cars which can go from roadworthy to a complete reck in the space of 12 months is silly!

With MOT's now costing £40 + chargable retest there will be more and more cars on the road with no MOT.
Most people on here wouldn't think twice about spending a couple of hundred to get your '94 Gsi through the MOT but your average joe will either scrap the car or run with MOT as its just not worth it on an old car.

No bad idea. I like to know that my Nova is safe for another year being as old as it is. Piece of mind.

Totally bad idea. When I was at work last, helped lady get a bike in her car. Her front passenger tyre, on the outside, was bald down to the fibres/fabric - christ knows how long she has until her MOT. Will probably be dead before then due to blow out.
imho, 1 year is the MAXIMUM for MOT testing. Cars older than 10 years should be done every 6 months.

what ive been told is that when a car is bought new it wont need an MOT for 3 years, then 2 years then 2 years then back to annual testing.
bit of an odd one really, some cars have a really high standard of build quality where as other are shite when they leave the factory.

6 months is a bit much My Nova only does 2000 miles a year MAXIMUM and gets driven only 4 months a year.

most places in europe are 2 years for mot's. but i agree that there are too many fools that dont maintain their cars here to justify a change

Stupid Idea if you ask me. Needs to stay at 12 months, which is about as low as you can feasibly go. You also have to consider the costs all the companies who've just had to pay to get the computerised system installed have just payed!
