Right, I think I've found an upgrade for my 1.2 8v Corsa!
Here's the spec:
VW Corrado G60 1991 119,000 miles
Lowered 40mm on 15 with brand new tyres
New copper brake pipes all round
Full SS exhaust with lifetime warranty
Supercharger 'blanked off' to give dumping turbo sound
Chrome grill instead of black
Interior good, apart from new drivers seat needed (might get buckets anyway)
Leccy windows, sunroof, active spoiler works, no rust blah, blah
Also, it's had a gearbox re-build in the past.
He took me for a spin and it pulls VERY well. Said he had beaten a Clio 182 the other day (I didnt really take too much notice)
How much do you thinks its worth?
Also, is there anything specific I should be looking for before I make him an offer?

Well its advertised for £2495 and he said he'd drop to £2200 ish. The mileage is quite low for a Corrado?

Does that sound like a good deal if I got it for £2000 cash?
I'm a little concerned about the gearbox having to be rebuilt a while back?
Also, is 'blanking off' the superchrger to make the dump valve sound going to damage anything?

That sounds a bit chavvy tbh. Plus, I'd certainly not be bragging about beating cars when trying to sell one, from what you've said about the car I don't think it's been driven gently if you get my meaning.

I wouldnt be too bothered, it will probably be better than one thats not been done. These type of cars will have had a hard life & will need regular maintenance.
Hav'nt a fecking clue what the SC blank off is all about.........id be asking if it can be 'un-blanked please'

Ah, here we go:
quote: The G60 uses a boost re-circulation system which mainly for emissions and noise reasons feeds un-used boost back into the charger. Unfortunately this un-used boost is roaring hot and so not as useful as good old fresh air in terms of O2 content. This recirculation system can be junked and the secondary charger inlet blocked off with a blanking plate. This will result in the charger drawing only fresh cold air (better for performance and pinking) and running a bit cooler. The re-circulated air can be vented to atmosphere and you get a nice "woosh" on full throttle gear changes when this happens. The crank case and cam case oil breathers feed into the old re-circ pipe so a breather filter and catch tank need to be added following removal of the pipe.

From what I know, the supercharger was serviced/rebuilt at about 70,000, but I dont think it was upgraded as such.
The pipe in red above has been removed, and the green bit is where the blanking plate is. We were driving, when he took his foot off the gas, it made the "tssss" (dump valve noise). I asked him about it and he said it had been done on purpose to make that noise?

VR6s are more pricey to repair form what I've heard, plus, the insurance is more. I only want it as a toy to/from work for a year as a bit of fun really once I've left uni this summer.

i don't think blanking off the supercharging is to good. i remember reading something about it reducing the life of the cupercharger.

What does a supercharger service require? Are we talking £50 to your local garage for 2 hours work, or to a specialist for many more pennies?

I think this is what he means,
taken from www.jabbasport.co.uk
4. Question: Should I Block Off The Boost Return System?
Answer: There is some bad advice from other Companies regarding this modification, PLEASE DO NOT DO IT it will destroy the supercharger within a very short time!! Jabbasport always recommend that the standard boost return system is left in place. Remove this and block off the return system to the Supercharger will starve it from the oil vapour it needs from the engine breather, this is needed to lubricate the sprung assisted Apex seals within the casings.
