I do it when my car is cold for a smoother gear change, takes longer but as the car is cold I'm not going fast.

There is no point on a modern car, NOTHING in F&F is worth doing.

You shouldn't need to if your gearbox is working properly.

it is when the clutch is pressed to dis engage the gear, then the gearstick is put in neutral, then lift foot of clutch pedal to synchronise the gears, then put foot back on clutch pedal and put into gear then remove foot from pedal to make car move........
it was used on some older cars that didnt have sinchromesh gears on the shafts so double clutching would allow for the gears to re-align.
stopped gears crunching and shearing.
doesnt need to be done on a 1.2 8v, or any other modern car for that matter, unless you have a straight cut box then it may assist fluid gearchanges.

only a 1.2 8v driver would ask that sort of question as they yearn for the sort of speed portrayed in films such as Fast and the Furious.

quite useful when you have to change down to overtake someone. clutch and take it out of gear foot off clutch rev a bit so that when you put it back into a lower gear its at the revs it should be then stick it back into gear. comes in slightly useful as it saves the huge jerk forward if you have to take over.

It's not usefull for overtaking people at all.
That would just waste time.
If you want to match revs just blip the throttle.

Don't see why you would need to go to that length in a road car though, they have syncro's. To stop the jerk you can just blip the throttle before you bring the clutch up after a change, no need to take it out of gear, then blip, then select new gear.

well it can be done as you are changing gear it just saves the jerk when you go into a lower gear making it smoother.

Its a total waste of time though, if you want the revs matched just blip the throttle.
