On new phone such as the N95 if you use the wifi to connect your mobile to the net. Are you charged per download rate as normal? while browsing etc?.

I'm pretty sure you arent, because the internet connection is provided by the wireless network instead of the network operator.

If you are using wifi, as james said, you won't be charged.

Would defeat the point of having wifi.

You can't charge somebody for using a wifi connection thats not yours.

The only way they could do it is only allow you to connect to network provided access points, whcih again unless the network wanted to offload data onto another network would defeat the purpose.

Yeah this is what I was thinking. Fair enough on the wifi side as this is your own but there is no way for them to see how much browsing or downloads you have made?. Once finished this info won't be reported back to the mobile networks?.

Just hypothosising as I've not yet seen any review of a wifi enabled phone or read anyones account of monthly charges using one.

Don't know if the phone would have a function for that.

Why would you not just use the built in wifi on the laptop to connect to your wireless modem though
