Hey, this has been posted on vvoc, but i was wondering if you guys could shed any light. thanks a million
My 2.0 dti is being a big gayer, from cold it warms as it should, but after a prolonged drive, or a drive on the motorway, it will sit at 100 and keep going to the max.
as soon as the revs drop, e.g. come off the motorway, stop at traffic lights etc, the temp drops right down to 80. soon as i move off again, it will boil.
I have replaced the thermostat myself, and still being weird. I know the fan isnt working, but surely this wouldnt be the cause of the problems? as its on the motorway and the fan wouldnt need to be on.
It cant be the water pump can it? otherwise it would never cool? could it be a blocked rad? please please help here cos im completely baffled and dont want to hand it to vauxhall and be robbed.

water pump is unlikely, have you checked for an airlock? do the heaters in the car work? is the temp gauge faulty?

dont think its an airlock, temp guage isnt faulty, as it really was boiling when it said it was, im suspecting a blocked rad.

right, update:
something very odd here, had a quick look at the fan swicth on the radiator, and the plug is unplugged, and it seems another, 3 pronged plug is wired off it, leaving the vauxhall one dormant.
the radiator has what seems like two fan switches on the side! one is connected and one isnt?! both are three pronged which wouldnt fit any vauxhall wiring i have seen.
i have put a wire across the 2 pronged wire, and the fan comes on, but on this other wire, that actually goes onto the radiator, nothing happens?
wtf is going on here? seems like i dont have a radiator thats supposed to fit my car?
