crash damage, chain rattle (on 2.2) service history history of recalls, water leaks and all the normall stuff, the 2.2 is a lot of fun but not quite as fun as the propper one

Why, when people clearly know what car they want, do others start suggesting different options.
The guy wants a VX220, so someone suggests a Seat Leon and an RX7...????
He just wants advice! Not car suggestions...and definatley not a Seat Leon!

They have a chain rather than a belt and early models had a problem with keeping that chain lubed up (oh err) it was recalled by Vauxhall but some lazy people might not have bothered.

vx220 is a go kart. A lad here at work has one. He goes round tight turns at speed without even flashing the brake lights, even when im HARD on the brake into the same turn at lower speed .
You will love it

i love mine, not alot to look out for really, the big one is accident damage, lift up the front bonnet and have a look at the rad and air guides, peolpe usually glue the guides together as they aren't cheap, great fun though

chris that and if they have had it done and it still rattles a bit be very cautious, seen a few snap and a few slip due to losing tension, a recon engine is 2.5k alone fitting would be a lot on a vx220, i would go for a turbo and change the cambelt and waterpump if it was my money

great advice and top people
look for signs of leaks (usually from window seals)
Accident damage as if not fixed properly can cause geometry problems
Check all the undertrays are still there and be very meticulous ober any cracks in the shells and they are costly to fix or buy new.
Also if you are going for a tubby try and get a low millage one as poss as cambelts and water pumps need doing at around 30k miles and are not cheap. 2.2 have timing chains so they dont even need looking till 100k miles
Also turbos had carpet and some even with central locking!
Love them really would go out and buy one tomorrow if I could but no garrage I'll just go and test drive them frequently for now

nothing wrong with the 2.2s the one in my astra has been a joy to own, not one thing has gone wrong with it, theyre an excellent engine if serviced on time etc.
ps. all 2.2s rattle the chain on start up for a second or two then it settles out
