My gfs dad & brother is off to Japan soon, and her bro said they PS3s are cheap over there. Ive tried to find a price, all i could find is $400, which is really cheap I also looked into problems with importing them, only problems so far are that you cannot play people in the UK online, and that you have to buy American Blu-ray dvds.
Anyone know the price of an import, is it worth it? I dont think il have to pay for it.

You dont need a power supply, can just use a normal 'kettle' plug.
The warranty could be an issue, but it could be free soo.............

Power is different, think a converter is needed.
Although region free games developers could have the right to restrict games to certain regions

1. Nope. Sony of Australia has nothing to do with your console's warranty.
2. If I remember correctly, firmware has also support for english, so no problems with that area.
3 / 4. Well, here is the "fun" part. PS3 games are completely region free, but many of them will adjust their content to your console's region. For example, Resistance: Fall of Man activates japanese text, removes blood and censors certain scenes. Furthermore, you can only connect to japanese servers (imagine the ping), and play with japanese players. Motor Storm has similar features, which clearly hints that these are intentional restrictions to stop people from importing*. Backwards compatibility with PSOne / PSTWo is limited to your console's region. Playstation Store's limitations can be circumvented.
5. Voltage. Unlike previous console's, PS3's internal power supply can take either 110V or 220V, so this isn't going to be problem. But I'm not sure what kind of plug Australians use. Is it same as in Japan?
* I found it rather interesting that Sony made PS3 region free, but at same time, bullied all import stores not to sell either PSP or PS3 units / games to Europe.
