Taken from talk-torque...

Newbie:
K am new to the site but not to the car had mine for 1 year now.
It's the 2.0i SE she's done me proud a lot of times against people who put em down then just get smoked afterwards.
If there's anyone from the Grimsby area or Lincolnshire in particular on the site am the only current member of modifying car club GLOYNBOYZ to have a CC.
Mod wise on a cash flow front everythin has been tight for the past 1/2 year but managed to get neons and Quad Exhaust put on.
Also been toying with the idea of Push Button Engine Start as well as a Race Mode Button to help boost the performance by an extra 45bhp.
The spoiler am after is the one on my avatar so if anyone sees it priced up anywhere send me a shout please as that pic is from a site in Hoilland but no price was with it only for the kit (Front, Back & Sides. Spoiler not inc.)
yes...he said 45BHP from this magic button, so I investigated:
quote:
me:
weclome how are you planning on getting the extra 45bhp when the button is pushed?
quote:
him:
Check it out spotted on ebay (best place for good mods)
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RACE-MODE-KIT-Peugeot-106-205-206-306-307-309-405-406_W0QQitemZ110105412316QQcategoryZ72205QQcmdZViewItem
as you can probably imagine, this made me somewhat amused..
quote:
me:
I can 100% guarentee that won't give you 45bhp extra mate. It's a con. It fools the engine into taking in more fuel without properly adjusting the ecu parameters. Not good for your engine at all and a waste of £15 really.
In comparison, cams and a remap will struggle to give you 45bhp extra, and a remap of the ecu will struggle to give you 15bhp extra
then it got better:
quote:
him:
Where there's a will there's a way. lol.
I only have a half exhaust system at the mo but the power out put was increased by 15bhp. Tested on Rolling Road to find out.
yup, not only can this tuning wizard get 45bhp from a £14.99 ebay bargain, but he can get 15bhp from a cat back exhaust! the guy's a legend! what's even better is that it seems that if you WANT your car to be faster, it will be! I'm willing my car to add 15bhp as we speak, will report back on whether it works tonight.
quote:
me:
blimey, not meaning to be argumentative but I've never heard of a half exhaust system giving 15bhp! definitely not on a 206 anyway, and I've been tuning 206s for 5 or 6 years now
notice my continuing politeness...afterall, the cc owners club is a nice place for nice people..not nobheads who can get 100bhp form a magic tree.
quote:
him:
Depends i guess on the work done. I've noticed a lot of 206s that when they have the exhaust done they still keep the muffler box in the middle.
Cut that out and it helps.
Depending on what you do to the cat and manifold overall a spot on racing exhaust system can boost bhp from 30 - 60+
Yup you read right. A decent sports exhaust on a 206 gti engine can give UP TO 60BHP. And here's me faffing with my custom longlife one! I'm off to get a sports one this weekend I think - that'll take me to 200bhp before we consider my induction kit and magic tree.
so the moral of the story is this. If you want a powerful car get a 206 2.0 cc. it's 138bhp as standard. Add a racing exhaust, you're at 198bhp. Fire up ebay, £14.99 later and you have 243bhp at the touch of an illuminated red button. Genius.

TBH if people haven't got a clue they are going to go by 'max power' bhp figures! I've only ever met one person who thought his ebay 'chip' made his shonky ford escort go from 80bhpish to 105bhp! I showed him where the ECU was and then where his 'chip' was located, i think he still thinks that little chip made his car rapid!
