You still need some way of lowering the compression and i would rather run aftermarket managment rather that one of there "special AFPR's"

That uses a double rate fuel pressure regulator to "guess" the fuel needed when under boost.
I wouldn't trust my engine surviving with that.
Proper mapped management will be much better. But that costs.
Engine would also need new pistons the lower the compression ratio.
Cost is more like £1500-£2000 for a turbo conversion.
Edit-Beaten too it

Just use a wideband lambda with megasquirt, gentle driving, eventually running more boost/revs.
Do some datalogging, and adjust the map where need be.

I pricd up a proper turbo conversion for these engines once, to be done properly it would cost £3000+ and might see about 180bhp. and be very unreliable. and slower than a N/A x16xe with 3k spent on it.

Unreliable. how come?
With a suitable turbo, intercooler, and management, and a low enough compression ratio, it should see well over 200bhp, reliably.
A turbo'd 8v should handle enough boost for almost 100% increase in power, so i'd say a 16v should give even bigger increases, and a shed load more torque than any na engine.

Lukes car wasn't that fast TBH, it was fast but not as fast as a mildly tuned 20XE.
