Replacement log book is around £20 and you can apply for that and tax the car at the same time in your local DVLA office. Think your nearest one is in Manchester or you can go to Chester. Chester one was a right pain to park though. Manchester office has a car park around the back.

I don't know how you will go about changing the plate though sorry.

post office and fill in a v62 and get a new log book, if you still have the green tear off slip which the last owner gave you when you filled in the log book then staple that to the v62 and you get your new v5 for free other wise its between £18-£20

You need to fill in either a V317 and/or V778/1 form to put your number plate on retention or transfer it to another car. If you put it on retention it costs £105 and then another £80 per year after that. You also need to send the V5 off to them with the form and an MOT certificate I *think*, and after they've processed that they'll want your tax disk also. I've cut and pasted the link for you to be sent the forms from the DVLA website:
http://forms.dvla.gov.uk/forms/ordering_forms_dg.htm
Hope that helps?

To keep your plate on retention it's only £25 per year is it not..Initially it's the £80 + £25 then £25 per year after that..Not that it matters as you are putting it right on your new car..

Need to fill in this form and send it off- costs £19 for a new V5 and takes about 2-4weeks:

Well you need to send off the V5 with the form to put your numberplate on retention. So I'd probably say the best thing is to do this and then send off the V5 when it comes back with the new reg number assigned etc to change over the ownership details. Seeing as you've sold the car to your uncle you say? I don't think he'd be too bothered waiting a couple of weeks You may be able to kill two birds with one stone kind of thing and get them to change both; if you actually go down to your local dvla office, but trust me this is a mission in itself
