My MOT is nearly due, I have a few queries.

If I take it to the garage before my MOT and say "will my tyres fail the MOT", are they likely to tell me? Because if I need new tyres, I would rather get them online before I have the MOT.

I also have a chip/crack in my windscreen, passenger side, slightly below the middle vertically, is this likely to fail?

Thanks.

depends how well you know them I guess mate. The garage I use will normally point out things they can see straight away and warn me.

How big is the crack? if it's just a deep chip it'll be fine.

Just say that you have a MOT in a couple of days coming up could you do a quick check to see if my tyres will pass, dont say when it is, i wouldnt of thought they would check if its with them etc, but im not to sure about the chip becuase some places would pass it and some wouldnt even thought its not really in "your view"

Edit- Still get it reparied though, Autowindow screens do it for free i think

James your chip will be fine. As long as you don't molest the crack too much it might just make it.

You should be able to tell if your rubber is good enough for the MoT.

Surely if I took it to a tyre place they would say, "oh yeah you need 4 new tyres, and a new exhaust, and a new engine"

They could say this...... but that doesn't mean you are going to give them any money does it

Measure them yourself.

Tyres at the legal depth across 75% of the tread pattern and the chip not larger than 10mm in the drivers line of vision, 40mm in the rest of the swept area.

your tyres will have depth indicators.... do a google search on them and legal limits etc and find out for yourself.

The tread on them looks OK-ish but they are cracked to buggery - that can't be good?
