Do these exist? I use another forum which recently had the same
usernames posting links to porn in every section. What are thses and how
do they exist?

yes, bots that go round and flood a registration page until they find one that works, then they post some crap
best way to get rid is to implement some captcha image, or some random question

no but they can pick up your email address and add it to a spam list, so if your worried change the email address field on there

Depends what they're programmed to do. The ones that spam forums wouldn't harm your computer normally if they just post plain text. No reason why they couldn't post virus-type stuff although its unlikely you'll find a message board that would host such a message. Most only allow plain text and BBcode like [b] [url] etc. which isn't as powerful as HTML/Javascript/ActiveX/whatever.
We get quite a few registration attempts but as every single one of ours are approved manually we get them all. There's enough to give it away - similar usernames/email address/IP addresses etc. Also helps if the pages are not standard design as the spam bot is less likely to be able to find its way around, as is the case here.
