Right i need help. My girlfriend dropped her nano and the screen now shows an Ipod with a big warning sign on it !! Hard drive clicks aswell
Anyone else had this and know how to fix it ??
Believe me i'll try anything to save the grief for a few weeks !!!!

You tried resetting it? Its in the insruction booklet how to do it, press a couple of buttons together. Not sure which ones though.

the buttons need pressing are the Play/Pause and the menu button IIRC. Otherwise send it back to Apple or take it to an Apple* Shop!!

lol yeah we reset it, have tried most stuff
unfortunately she didn't buy it new, so there isnt any way for her to take it back
was wondering if there was any last dicth attempt that could be made
if not i'll be purchasing another ipod for her :S

If it clicks, normally means its kaput. I dropped my old one down the stairs and it didnt work again.......

chances are it'll be the internal flash, which can be changed (do a google about it) but from what i can remember it has to be like for like (toshiba stuff i think). But i think the pins are soldered directly to the board and not a connector.
2nd hand nano's are pretty cheap now tbh, so get her one of those

yeah i was wrong, its a mini not a nano
I read up on a website how to take the hdd out and put compact flash in...might be an idea to do that and buy her a new one and keep the one i fix for myself

if its a mini, then it uses a microdrive (Hitachi i believe), again can be replaced. But yea, think the compact flash is pretty much a straight plug 'n' play swap (unlikes CF into an IPod) plus it'll increase battery power - here
