I know that it is a common problem for my exhaust to rattle off the back axle - any quick fixes or ways to prevent this - all help VERY welcome, the exhaust does my nut in!

Take it to a exhaust place. They can either move it back or forward - that's what happened with mine.

cable ties are plastic so will melt from the heat

What this lad said!
Also if have a large bore exhaust (like i did on the XE corsa) i took the rubbers off the centre section and pushed the exhaust up a touch securing it with cable ties. Theres plenty of space betwen the brackets and the exhaust so NO THEY DONT MELT!
