D4 is fat, although a good shell with no rust (well, as far as im aware).
But it has a sunroof, a smoothed boot, and although i LOVE the looks, eveyrthing is too heavy.
After seeing that nova oblitorate many things, I have a new idea to ponder...
Buy a 1.2 8v LS or something for sub £500? (How much do old corsas go for these days?)
Transfer engine, brakes, suspension, dials etc, all the good bits accross. Sell my old sunroof and all other parts (theoretically, the Airdam, stieny skirts, Irmscher rear, and my exhaust system should cover the cost of another car???).
I won't have to worry about getting bits and bobs sorted, worry about cuttng the sunroof out, worry about changing the boot etc etc.. All I really would need to do it just swap bits over, and sell everything else? it'll be totally standard looks wise so i've nto got to worry about buying tinted rears and fronts, i've not got to worry about paint chipping blah blah....
Thoughts? It may enable me to have a fully working car without spending the £1000+ to get tax, insured, MOT, and bits sorted out to make her safe?
Im talking outloud again, its a constent battle in my mind as to what to do.
JR will call me a bufty no doubt...

best idea....
I bought my 2000 V plate with a less than healthy 1.0 12v for 700. It was a great shell.
Lee swapped everything over for much cheapness.
What are you thinkin gover swapping over? Engine, brakes and susp?

Got the suspension still in the box, dash and dials would come over (rev counter etc), V6 brakes, rear discs, reg plate, the engine (considering getting rid of all the chrome), mounts etc. I want lighter seats etc anyway, so got to buy all that.
Anything not needed to be binned or sold as spares.
I know its probably a better idea to buy a better car to rag (i.e a 205, or Saxo 16v or something), but I know Vauxhalls, don't fancy a nova, but the idea of passing a lot of stuff in a Corsa still appeals to me.
I know people said it at the start, but it was a sentimental thing, but i've been weighing up costs, and the sentimental part is falling away, i still have lots of pictures
Its just i could buy a crappy model, XE it, insurance would be f-all, no MOT, Tax, etc to sort out.
Thinking out loud again, Donna jsut rolled her eyes at me last night when i asked her

Costs..... Insuring and running 4 cars and 2 bikes and a nice house at 26....
We've already got 3 cars and 2 bikes between me and Donna, don't think she'd like a 4th car

Sounds like it would be cheaper to buy a cheap corsa and transfer everything over rather than getting your current corsa road and/or track worthy chap. You have everything pretty much ready to go on another car and you can sell your extra bits off your current corsa to help fund anything else extra you may need etc and maybe someone would want to buy the shell as a project to get it roadworthy. And like you say your current car still has the sentiments but at the end of the day... If I were in your situation I would probably do a similar sort of thing with mine. So go for it I say

christ.... dont remove and refit a dash for the sake of a rev counter
It'll mess up the cars mileage etc.... and fitting an aftermarket rev gauge will be a damn sight easier

gay gay gay gay gay gay gay
How many time shave i told you in here, let alone in real life what you do and dont need to do
you dont need other corsa, as it wont be D4, its just not the same, like me not having J18
you dont need to cut the sunroof out you dont need to to half the things you haev said
corbs fullytrimmed and kitted car went brillaintly at the trackday, yours stripped with 15" would be fine

from experience that best thing to do would be the cheapest
sell off all the unneeded tat from D4 to fund a track car.
a std 2.0 is enough to have fun with

Sorry, didn't mean to type dash as I wouldn't need it, just the dials really. I'd sell the old dash as its in good condition.
@ Ash, i think i'd loose my nuts, literally!
If i've got a car thats working i won't loose interest, i've lost interest as i've got f-all money spare and i've not driven it in 2 years If i could use it more i'd love it more.
James, its easy to say its ok, but weight is everything with NA engines, the more you have, the slower it goes. Straight line doesn't interest me as i've got the bikes, its the corner and braking and acceleration speed im interested in.
I wouldn't need so many things and could sell an awful lot, which would cover a lot of the work on a new car.
It is very very tempting. Stavs has just informed me about a van, but i think i'd want a car just so its ready to swap bits over and thrash. Willy style, simple, plastic and track slag ish.
