nah. i don't have much money and i may be just dreaming at the moment.
few on there from older threads that looked suitable but are sold.
some cheap 320's and 316's but not many cheap 325's.
are the 320's 4 or 6 pot?

They have 6 glorious pistons.
I'm sort of looking too it seems to me, the best plan is to buy a solid one, whatever the engine, and lob the engine in later, 325s seem to fetch loads of money even if they're tatty.
320 is a good shout though, still fairly pokey, probably won't have an LSD though, the 325 Sport would.

sports fetch a fair bit more than standard models though from what i can see.
thinking about welding a normal diff and going tramp drifting, so the extra power of the 325 might be useful.

320 would probably be fine for that, the 325 would be better, but I don't think you'd struggle with the 320.
Ask Drax, he had a 320, I'm pretty sure he had it sideways a couple of times no bother.

I though that the E30 320's were a 4-pot and they changed to 6-pot on the E36.

Nope, 12v M20 straight 6 in both the 320 and 325 (and 323, before the 325)
E36 had the M50 or M52 engines with 24 valves.

That explains it then
Sounds like a beast, was it a tamed down M3 with standard bodywork by any chance? (I know the M3 was a 2.3 or 2.5 b4 anyone jumps in)

not to hard to get my e36 320 sideways just gotta kick the clutch on full lock!
stil quite hard with it having an open diff but that can easily be welded up!
cnt beat the e30s tho in the 320's or the 325's so much fun

be very very wary of buying these cars, i have worked on a few and no matter how mint they look from the outside when stripped they always seem to be rotten. bodging one up for a mate as we speak...
so many of them i know of bought + bodged up with f/glass etc and flogged on.

The E30 320is is a special 3 Series model that was sold exclusively in Italy and Portugal in order to take advantage of the reduced taxes in those countries for cars with engines that displace two liters or less. It is powered by a 1990cc version of the four-cylinder S14 engine developed by BMW Motorsport for the E30 M3 and also shares its close-ratio Getrag gearbox with the M3. However, all other components are standard 3 Series items.
Where was the E30 320is built?
The E30 320is was built on the normal Regensberg assembly line alongside the other 3 Series models.
If the E30 320is is powered by an M engine, why is not badged as an M model?
The reason the E30 320is is not badged as an M model ultimately comes down to marketing: Unlike the limited-production M3, which was created primarily as a competition machine and utilizes many unique exterior body panels and chassis components, the 320is was never intended to be a homologation special. It was conceived instead as a sportier and more affordable alternative to the torquier and more refined 325i, which was taxed heavily in Italy and Portugal due to its 2.5-liter engine.

An e30 318is would be alright to drift in probably, my brother had his 318 e36 sideways a fair bit and the e30 is a fair bit lighter. Took some persuasion though.

Does welding the diff make it merely impossible to use as an everday car in straight lines? Sounds a bit dangerous.

It can be a bit hairy when you come to a corner and the back slides whatever speed you're doing, I would imagine
