Right my birthday is approaching so I am starting to do some serious investigation into TV's as its what I want 
I originally had my mind set on getting a R74 but since all the problems with gash pannels being put in them I am thinking I should look at other brands!
The other TV I would seriously consider would be this unit here:

Its a 26" Sony Bravia.
So it would pretty much be a toss up between the 26" R74 and the Bravia I have posted.
My needs:
- XBox 360 is the main reason for getting HD TV
- I want to plug my laptop into it to use it as a large monitor (VGA to VGA)
- I dont really watch many DVDs, I mainly watch TV shows and films on my laptop (which will be viewed on the TV as it will be connected)
As far as size goes I assume 26" will be big enough? It needs to be somewhat portable as I am still at uni so it will be making trips to uni and home every now and then (4-5 times a year, for one year)
So would 26" be ok or am I going to regret not going for 32"?
Any helpfull advice is more than welcome!

32" all day long.
Either the Toshiba or the Samsung are your best bet. If you hadnt of known about the different panels in the r74 you would have thought it was the best thing since sliced bread.
Im VERY happy with mine, but then again i do have an AUO panel

i've got the kdl26S2030 and its an amazing tv. i dont regret buying it at all. the one your looking at there is the U series which isn't as good as the S series. admittinly the sony bravias are more expensive than the samsung ones. but the quality of sound is far better on the sony. i done like a months research on what tv to buy. i can honestly say you would not be disapointed in a sony bravia 26s2030

I cant comment on the Bravias, as i havent had a PROPER look at them, but from what ive heard, they are pretty good - on some of the models.

my mates got a bravia (its darker than that one on the richersounds site) and like rus says the sound is better through the tv, i have mine running through an av amp with 4 speakers which 10x better than the biult in speakers on either model.
as far as picture goes i can tel no difference in quality through dtv and the 360's
i have an r74 btw

I dont really want to spend over £600...

samsung r74 32" can be had for about £550 now i think, not sure how much t he bravias are online but my mate paid a fair bit more on the high street

Doug, i bought the 32" Sony Bravia TV for £508+30 p+p, so for not alot more money you could have the 32" over the 26". however looking now its gone up abit in price, but not by much

The one you posted was a U series and Rus was talking about the S series...
I dont know the difference or if the one I posted was even a S series
Do the bravias have a 'game mode'?
Also how do I check to see if my laptop will display on it?
My laptop is a 15.4" with a resolution of 1280 x 800.
GFX card is a ATI mobility Radeon Xpress 200 series

just the standard samsung 1 year warranty, you could buy a 3-4 year supercare one from that company i would of thought but i just went for the standard 1 year.

yes it does on the new ones anyway, on my new 360 there is a 1080p setting and you will need to go through vga to get it though a very small number of tvs can do it through component

The black border on the Samsung does look good. But it collects dust way too easy
