wouldnt bother supercharging it, you will just cause no end of problems to it.
2.2 will be plenty fast enough.

why do i need to have driven a supercharged 2.2 to realise that high surging power in a light weight track car will ruin its drivability, of course it will robin lol
id also like to know why you questioned my response when other suggested similar things?

isnt the point of a supercharger that the power doesnt come in one lump tho? apart from any possible reliability issues i would think its quite a good way for more power in one of them. how much is the sc conversion?

Because you mentioned driveability, not reliability.
Either way, it wouldn't be unreliable, GM use the engine with a supercharger in America, it's great. And it wouldn't be surgey power, the power curve is smooth.

Why not? The 2.2 engines come charged standard in the US and the kits are now becoming readily available. It's probably going to be quite a big thing to do to your engine in the future.

Dont think a supercharger will have any effect on the drivability at all, power is delivered nice and evenly and the torque will be pretty flat! Good option Id say, will be miles better than the VX220 turbo! The chassis is obviously up to the job too, the turbo model supports that.
Top choice of car matey!!! Good luck with it!

there's also a turbo'd vx220 available which also begs the question why you would think a sudden serge of power would ruin drivablility, and obviously supercharged is more progressive from lower down.

I would imagine that the 2.2 220 would drive better than the turbo 220. But having never driven either I couldn't say. One point though, notice who's saying it won't handle well. Mr Know-It-All himself....

ppl from vx220.org.uk say the 2.2 handles probably a bit better than the tubbie,
whether or not its due to less weight or constant power im not sure, but i havent driven the tubbie.

The 2.2 is like a natural MR car, nice and neutral where as the turbo has elements of a rear engined car as the iron blocked engine is a lot heavier. Down to preference really.

The 2.2 engine is a lot lighter (all alloy), that probably makes it 'better' to drive, but like Adam says, personal preference no doubt.
