How do you guys rate 205's
1.9 gti's, looking for a nice track car for the summer, myself and a friend are going to be doing all the work and it will be a learning curv for us both but why not!
Looking for a decent car that can be worked on but won't cost loads to buy the overall base model, such as can find a decent 205 for around £500  rather than a newer car. It also means if we fuck up we aren't going to be stressing out all the time 
So how do they rate for nice little track cars, performance/mod wise also other cars to compare a 205 with, other than a nova

I don't think you'll find a better track car for your money, but the 106 XSi might be worth a look...

It's just the 1st major track/performance car we will be working on, worked on my corsa and also my friends 206 but looking at something we can work well on the the engine side of things but wont cost loads to buy the base model. Will be working on the car from Aug-April getting it ready for next years MFN.

Awesome cars and very capable out of the box with cheap improvements to make things a whole lot better. For good reading and tech advice/tips on modifying it the guys on this forum have covered nearly every base possible and are a helpful lot.........

cant recommend the wee cars enough. Ours was superb fun and super super cheap to run/fix

Nice, looking forward to the project tbh!
Keeping it smart on the outside, so it still looks tidy and clean, but hopefully will keep it simple, clean outside with a basic shape, 15" alloys, full suspension, stripping the inside and the rest is engine work
Whats there performance like? bhp/0-60/top ends etc?

130bhp for the 1.9 (122bhp if it's one with a cat), 7.6 seconds 0-60, 123mph top end (cat model will be slightly slower)
That's standard though, with less weight it'll be quicker

Not bad for standard, how do they stand with performance mods?
Got alot of little plans for it and can spend alot on the engine side of things, if the cars a good little runner and two people working on the car we have £3000-£4000 to spend on the engine give or take. No labour costs tho, just pure parts as we will fit most of it, or at least try

There's a lot of stuff about for them, and with your budget, even at the low end, you're talking carbs/throttle bodies sort of money, as well as being able to sort the suspension, brakes and exhaust, so you'll be able to build a 180-200bhp car easily for that.

Sounds like fun, will be so different from my corsa project
Looking to get the car towards end of july/aug. Just going to wait for a good little 205 then buy it. Hopefully end up with a nearly rust free car

Don't worry about that we aren't going cheap on those aspects already got the prices for that area sorted, mainly looking at ideas on the engine

No thanks mate, only spending £400/500 on a stock car, with nothing done to it at all. Also my friend hates 106's so thats the main reason we have gone for the 205

yup.... if you bear in mind the age etc and dont expect it to be like a modern fiesta/clio etc

What about clio 16v? Can pick them up fairly cheap and are just as good as 205's.

Except for the gearbox problems, and the fact that they're not actually as cheap.
