I have a few questions...
I have been offered a job in London...based in Covent Garden...
Now the thing is its a fucking piss take the price of houses/flats etc daaaaarrrn sssaaaafff...compared to back home...so is the rent...can anyone recommend a decent enough area to live in without scandalous house prices or high rent...???
I have had a look on tinterweb and im looking at £1000 a month rent on a 1bed flat in a decent-ish area...now me and the missus will potentially be moving so we could split everything half way...
The jobs on very very good money...but not that much where I can live in a plush apartment in the best areas and still have loads of money to actually enjoy london (you would be suprised a lot doesnt go far!) etc...so before I accept it (well I already have but it doesnt start till September so I can always back out) I need to know the above...
Has to be at most a 1hr commute to covent garden...also as its central wont be taking the car as it would take a year to get in and cost me a fortune in parking etc...so tube and trains etc...no buses cant stand the things...
My old mans a bin man he wears a bin mans hat....

What about St. Albans/Harpenden....I know someone who lives in Harpenden - decent area and rent ain't too bad on a 1 bed place.
Might be a bit far away though perhaps but is right on the commuter train line....

You could probably get to Covent Garden from Uxbridge in an hour too.

Thats a possibility...I got the tube today from Harrow & Wealdstone to Covent Garden as thats where I parked my car up (used to do it as a kid when going to wembley with my dad) and that cost me £11.20 on the train bit steep that like...especially if I had to travel in everyday as your looking at near on £200 a month on the train fairs alone...
Anyway of buying a railcard or something?

Direct train to waterloo from woking takes about half an hour so not long. About another 5 mins from guildford. Plus woking is pretty lively and mostly decent.

Was gonna say that you could catch the train from Watford --> Euston and then tube it to Covent Garden but Stocker beat me to it Prob be more economically viable to live out of London and commute in (you're probably getting a London weighting allowance in your new salary also which will help pay towards commuting) Oh and yes you can get travel cards (annual) which will get you a reduced fare, and oyster cards which are good for tubes etc (they kind of work on a pay+go system)

Yup thats the line, its a brilliant line.
Let me have a perv on right move and i will see.
Hatfield / stevenage location wise is brilliant, your right on the A1 near enough for the M25, and near the M1.
