Ive read they are quite easily tuneable, not sure how true that is? You say old, are they injected or run off a dizzy? That could be a con.

They have EFI and a Dizzy, but I wouldn't call that a con, there are advantages to that setup
It's a good engine, IF you can find a decent one, strong power delivery.
The only drawbacks I can think of are the weight and the fact that you might struggle to find a good one now.

I said could, I wouldnt feel so bad using carbs if it had a distributor as standard.

Parts are cheaper than the XE's. Will not cost too much to get it upto the XE's power.
More torque than a X16XE's.

they are very tuneable. Reasons over a redtop, cheaper to buy cheaper for bits easier to work on more room to work on lighter, im sure with slight modds a redtop corsa would struggle on acceleration, top end it would be better i expect.

not a bad engine at all, but for the cost of the conversion and the weight of the engine, you are better off with a redtop

depends what your after really.
As said good strong, reliable engine, very cheap.......
Not as quick as a XE standard, just as much work to fit a 16v as a 8v.
Still to this day one of the quickest Novas on the 1/4 was a 2lt 8v turbo.
The engine has now been fitted into a Corsa and is on the Projects on here.....
