I run a laptop on wireless and that never fails, and ive been sitting in the same room! 2 stories from the router, about 10meters in a straight line I guess

PCMCIA card in the laptop though?

The USB stuff isn't as good IMO. Being physically smaller doesn't help I don't think.

Basically, yes. Borrowing one would be better if you can as there is a small chance that that won't fix it.
