With my old laptop I needed a firewire card with USB2 as it said 1 wasn't high speed. With my new Dell laptop the firewire slot is slanted so the card is no good. I've just tried connecting my iPod with USB1 and it worked

Least its £30 I don't have to spend on another card!

An iPod uses a USB cable. New Dell laptops have USB2 ports. USB1 & USB2 ports looks the same and have the same size etc.

All it will have been telling you before is that it'll run extremely slow on a USB1 port.

Yeah, my PDA wouldn't sync with the USB1 port on the laptop. Worked fine on the Dell desktop pc.
