Hey guys,

Righteo, i need some info about the bmw mini superchargers. I'm doing a conversion on my rallye, not a problem doing the fabricating etc, but i lack general knowledge about superchargers.

I need to know how the boost is controlled/adjusted on the BMW mini superchargers,

Whether it need oil feed/return

And whether i am going to need to lower my compression ratio to around 9.6:1?

Thanks for the help guys,

Anton

According to what I was told earlier, by RobHayes, who has one, it's a sealed unit with no oil feed.

It's attatched to a car ATM

He had one which he was going to use for a project, but didn't, so sold it, but his mum has a Cooper S.

He's probably the man in the know for the questions you have.

no oil feeds

boost is adjusted by changing the pulley ratios

the mini runs compression of around 8.5:1

wow thats low! I still want it to be nippy at low revs so was thinking about having the CR a bit higher than that, around the same as a fiesta turbo.

Run a sturdy gasket and make sure you keep on top of fuelling. That way you can run standard CR and maintain low end go.

Not sure what the ET45 churns out boost wise, but I don't imagine being a charger, it'll be anything (or much) over 8psi.

standard charger puts out around 7-8psi of boost, but will put out upto 11-12psi with the right size drive pulley

cool, sounds good. I'm a bit dubeous of keping standard CR as its rather high on the 106 S2 rallye i believe. However, they do run steel headgaskets as standard, and keeping standard CR would see better gains. Any mone opinions on this matter?
