Used the Toyo R888s at oulton last year, really impressed but ive never had proper track tyres before so can only compare to road tyres. Decent price as well.

Have had both 888s and A048s. Depends what you will use them for. For all round use I prefer the A048 - Tougher compound, still good on track but not as good as the 888 but they last a LOT longer. The 888s are brilliant on track but I was only getting 3k miles or so with them. The A048s should last 4-5000 miles. The Dunlops are meant to be good, very strong sidewall with no flex so I'll probably try those next.

Correct me if i'm wrong but something like an 888 tyre would be used on track as a wet tyre? on race cars obviously, what would they be like on the road in the wet?

They are fine in the wet, they will aquaplane at high speed but the grip offered in corners is good surprisingly. Not really a wet weather specific tyre, used as an all rounder.

Do you use them as a road tyre aswell nik?

I take it they will be fantastic in the dry on the road? Will the grip on the road be a massive improvement to Yoko A539s?

I use pretty much mainly on the road - grip is so much better than a 'normal' road tyre IMO which never fill me with total confidence. The A048s do seem a little more twitchy in the wet than the 888s, must be because of the different compound.

not sure if it helps, but the wee garage at knockhill sells part worn A048's, 15s were £25 a corner, not sure what other sizes were there.

See.... i've always just asumed the 888's to be inferior to 048's :/

What compounds have you run Nik?

I've had medium 048's and couldnt fault them... granted they cant be expected to cope with standing water too well
