I haven't played for about a year and a half. generally fit, but i had ligament damage to my knee which put me on crutches for a while (about a year and a half ago). Tonight will be the first time i've properly played for a good while. It's only a group of my mates and a few people i don't know, but it'll be about 7 a side and quite competitive. I just want any tips you guys might have that may help me and my knee endure the game. My knee has a habit of 'poping out' if i sprint then stop suddenly and turn etc. Any serious straining! So i want to play without looking like a complete poof and wussing out on tackles etc. I figured i'd go into midfield and try to play 'sensible balls' to my players and find space without straining too much as i don't want to play in goal and stand around. Any tips you guys can give me for playing without doing too much and risking injury? (I used to play for my local town right through from under 12's to under 16's and have played most of my life. Just been lazy this past year and a bit and don't want to over do it). Any feedback would be appreciated lads, and sorry for the essay.

Start running.
You should really warm up before playing but don't stretch until you have otherwise you can pull a muscle.

A mate of mine did his knee last summer and has just came back to playing again! He brought a Nike Knee support for about £15.
He said it made it feel much better.
My honest advice would be, have a knock about with your mates until you feel comfortable going into tackles and turning etc
If you cant do it without thinking about it then you probably arent ready for a competitive game.
Just my opinion though

Id take it easy really. Just tell them all (if they dont know) that you've had a bad injury so not to go flying in on your knee.
It will take a while to build the strength back up so wouldnt push it too hard or you'll injury yourself even worse.

Well all went well Braced my knee up and took it easy, sprinted a little but jogged most of the time, made me realise how unfit i was though. Ah well will be doing the same next week. Cheers for the advice everyone
