I hear you can get away withought running the coolent pipes to the TB?
Reason for asking is because the one going from the expansion tank is kinked just before going into the TB and now has a small hole in it
Wouldn't it piss out water when not connected?
Where does the other water pipe go to?
Thanks.

You can get away with it but in winter the car may stall because of not haviny any coolant going through it. Ive done without because I dont plan on having the car when its cold as im wanting a new car
EDIT: the TB coolant hoses just got to the coolant bottle so its just taking a short cut really. as one comes from the engine into the TB and then from the TB to the coolant bottle

I'll run it with them then
I'm fitting the mantzel this week and they have a slight bend where the TB connects, so it may be enough to move the TB away from the bulk head so the pipe wont kink

It will be fine with them off just prepare for the engine to stall a lot in winter lol. Although just go to some where that sells fuel hose think I used 8mm stuff and just extend the coolant hose while you have it apart as its easier than doing after youve put it back together a week later trust me

Sorry but thats a load of crap!
Monster, You'll be fine with them disconnected.
Take off the two hoses that have the tb hoses attached to them and bin them, then get 2 normal bore hoses and use them.
This gets rid of the stupid thin tb pipes.
Ive NEVER had a problem and have had the car like it for 3 winters as well as when we had snow!

What he said/\ lol
The tb hoses do fook all really.
Ive just blocked them both off in my nova, which has a x16xe fitted.
The air intake needs to be heated in winter for carb motors, due to cold air freezing inside the carb, this is not a problem on fuel injected engines in the uk.
No doubt when GM designed it, they were thinking a lot about other countries that see like -40deg temperatures at night....

Ok, I'll remove them.
Bit confused by Rob_Lee's post
If I remove them, it'll piss out water, surely?

Put a 8mm pipe joiner in place of the tb
So coolant runs from the matrix pipe to the tb hose(then through the joiner) into the next hose to the expansion tank....

Nope. All you do is bypass that part of the circuit.

Oh, so basically join to the two pipes together, so it cuts out going thru the TB?

Yeah I was, but I've realised I've put too much time, effort & money into it to sell for 2.1k. Plus i'll miss it too much

Yes mate, just replace the tb bridge, with a piece of 8mm straight pipe.

Dave A told me to do this. Looks like a good idea in all fairness
Don't forget you are going to need to blank off the outlet on the expansion tank. Im going to do it next time i take the TB off.
In theory it will drop intake air temperature by a fair bit

you don't blank off the pipe going to the expansion tank Superlite (name??)
You bridge the two pipes together that go into the TB

Head off down the local plumbing shop(or B&Q), i got a 8mm straight pipe from my local plumbing place, made from copper.
It also helps if the pipe is "barbed", like a ridge on the end to stop the hose from sliding off.
Slide the pipes completely over it and then you cant even see the join

Names Ed mate
Look at Dave As 1.6 on bodies. The pipe from the expansion tank is disconnected all together. He has done this because its on throttle bodies but you can also do it when fitting a mantzel or just with a standard setup
