Thinking of fitting a 1.4 8valve to replace my 1.2 8valve, both engines have the same igniction (black box at end of cam box) should I expect any problems when fitting ?

What gain is over the 1.2? 1.2 is 45bhp, 1.4 is 62bhp, iirc?

And its a direct replacement for the 1.2? Only change is the ECU, same loom etc?
Cheers

1.4 is 60hp.
Not much of a gain, but ok for what it costs, basically just the engine.

It would probaby cost me less to use it rather than modding the 1.2 with the 1.8 throttle body etc.
What about torque? Much of a boost?

Nice one.
So just direct replacement, no wires need fidling with etc, just the bare block & head?

Ahhh right, I get you. Notice much of a difference over the 1.2?

A big difference over the 1.2. Got it from the breakers today and only just finished fitting it 1/2 an hour ago. The gear box, clutch, injectors etc are the same as the 1.2 only things I had to swap from the 1.2 were the connection that the throttle cable fits on to and one sensor that used a different plug. The whole lot only cost me £100 but before I put it in I fitted a new timing belt, stat, oil filter and plugs another £20 or so.

I thought it was a good price, I needed a new engine as I had put 3 holes in the 1.2 when it went bang. If you get just the engine I dont see that you will have any trouble fitting it to your gear box etc. It will give you more bang for your buck than working in the 1.2 unit.

Aye, apparently the 1.4 can make 80bhp with the SR cam etc. IIRC its the same box in the 1.2?

Fit a 1.4 ecu ASAP.
As it will be underfueling on a 1.2 ecu.
SPI's aint bad engines if you fancy spending a bit of cash

The box will fit no problem, don't know if the ratios are the same but I would say they prob are. For £100 you wont get any better power increase. It has changed the car completly, a lot more power all through the range and plenty of torque. I am more than happy. Well it's time to hit the shower and return myself to my normal pasty white colour.

Aye, 1.4 is a better base to start from rather than the 1.2 aswell.
Any idea on the torque?

Hi Vaux Lad the problem with the 1.4 ecu was the fact that the breaker did not have a key for it so I cant get a key cut to fit my locks and still be chiped for the 1.4 ecu. If anyone can tell me how to work around this I would appreciate it.

What year is your car?
Does it have the transponder system?
I have a none immobilised C14NZ ECU, for a distributor model engine.
As standard they produce about 75 lb/ft of torque(they are built for torque, to be good economical engines for town driving)
