Ok,
Looks like the car is going to be going
How simple is it to take the private plate off and revert back to original?
As easy as going to the local DVLA office?

Fill in a retetion form and hand it in or send it off. about 2-3 weeks later you can remove it few weeks after that you get the V5 back

What a crock of shite.....not what was posted above I might add.
A load of form filling bollocks...dont even attempt this if you dont take the car with you.
You will need:-
The full VIN number
The tax disc number
And (not obligatory) the MOT certificate for transfer.
And then cough up £115 for something that you have already purchased
The only good point is that I'm assured the plate will be put on retention in 7 days and i get the revised tax disc in 7 days...will have to take the mot cert back then so no doubt more delay
bugger

i have just had to do this so il just say what ive done:
went to local DVLA office last week, they had all the forms i needed filled them in with the women, had to take my MOT, V5c, Seriel number from top of tax disc or the tax disc itself and method of paying the 105quid it costs.
They kept the MOT and V5c and said it would 2 weeks till i got a new tax disc and letter to get plates made up, but they they dropped on my door mat this morning so took just under a week. Got plates made up today and put them on and put new tax disc in.
So just waitin gon the V5c to return now.

When I did mine recently it took ~6 weeks for the MOT cert. and V5 to arrive, and I needed to tax the car, but couldn't as it hadn't all come through.
Total pain in the arse.

The length of time is random tbh.
Some times I go in and they do everything then and there.
Other times it takes a week then a get the v5 in a couple of weeks.
Other times they make it up.

£25 to put it no retention for 1 year, you have to pay that every year if you don't assign it to a car...
£80 transfer fee, but costs nothing when you put it on another car..
it's a shit
why is the car going jules?
