Hey all, question about the astra mk4 SRI. Some come with TC and others with cruise control, wont the wiring loom for TC still be there even if the car came with cruise control as standard and would it be possible to put a switch in so you can have both?

The older ones might not have it on the loom, but I do know that the 2.2 16v Coupes have the loom for the traction control and its very simple to install the button to turn it on and off.

Well ive been looking at a 2003 1.8 SRI and it comes with cruise control. Just thought it was the same as with the "LS" model not actually having fog lights but had the wire loom in the bumper etc

Theres threads on AS regarding adding the TC button if it doesn't have it.
Do they not all come with traction control, just some not switchable?

As far as I know sri and above they have TC or cruise control. But surely to save money they will just have one wire loom wont they?

The 2.2 SRi has TC but no switch, I think the 1.8 is the same.

If it has traction control it'll have it.
If it doesn't it'll be nothing to do with a wiring loom, it'll be an ecu somewhere.
Whether that can be added or not is a different matter.
Whether you need it or not is also doubtfull.
I'd not be put off an otherwose perfect car by that anyway.

my coupe turbo didnt have the switch, they are easy to retrofit if you want it, if the loom is not behind the panel you just buy a short section of loom, the switch and a new panel with a hole for switch.

there be be space for the TC control switch but the hardware itself wont be there, it was the same with the megane coupe i had a place and even a plug in the loom for the TC switch as the models in europe have it standard, but even if i fitted the switch the hardware in the gearbox etc wouldnt have been there

Not with the Astra mate, its simply as case of fitting the switch and away you go.
Most Astras come with T/C as standard but no button to turn it on or off, only the GSi has that option so all you need is the panel from a GSi and plug it straight in.
Traction control on the Mk4 was a bit pants IMO, all it done was cut the throttle it wasn't a stability programme and if pulling out a junction at speed and the wheels span the throttle would cut and you would be in the shit

I think what Steve means is if it doesn't have traction control, you won't have it no matter what switch or wiring you have.
Adding a switch to the existing system is a different, easier matter.
I know of at least one 1.8 sri with a switch from stantard, W reg.
