When i rev the engine whilst on the drive its a little smokey(greyish colour) but under load its absolubtly fine.Ive noticed that when my car is sat overnight when i drive it first thing it puffs out smoke for about 200 yards then its fine.Im guessing it needs new oil stem seals. How hard is this to do and where abouts are they.Oh and its had a new h/g done around 4 months ago by me so im not bothered about taking the head off.
Also how hard is it to put new piston rings in?

stem seals are ok if your comfotable in taking the head off etc. the seal itself is on each valve above the guides. need a valve spring compressor, take the valve out replace the seals then put the valve back and lap them in. takes abit of pateince and time to get some of the retainers back on the valves as they can be little cunts sometimes. make sure you lap them in good to or youl have shite compression. as fro piston rings abit more work again. personnally ide never replace rings without a rebore as have seen to many hones that pass oil esspecially on a tierd engine. haynes manual tells you how to go about most things

when you say lap them in do you mean grinding them back in with paste? And how long do you reckon the seals would take roughly?

yep thats the one. if youve never done it before ask someone who has to show you on the first one. ide say the seals would take a couple of hours (16 valves) not inclueding laping them back in. aslong as your carefull not to damage the seats shouldnt be to bad. the slightest score and you fecked! mgt not be able to bring it back

the bit where there at the kitchen table with the head there doing the seals before laping. abit of grease on the end of a small screwdriver is needed but all for you to find out. good luck!

yes, a definite sign of overfuelling. get it on a RR and then get an AFR graph. pointless pulling an engien to bits for the sake of what could be a £14 sensor making it overfuel....
