It's rpm you have to worry about, not power.

Read that.
Turbos are not good with standard internals TBH, you'll melt pistons with too much boost pressure.

he reckons i can run low boost on standard internals.
if i wanan run high boost what do i need and what would i spend?

The standard piston will tolerate being pocketed to take higher valve lifts but at higher power outputs (up to 220bhp on the 1600) switching to forged pistons is a good idea for peace of mid. Omega's forged alloy items were developed in conjunction with SB Developments and include rings pins and circlips.

theres a few thread on this. The standard pistonms may be able to take the power but they would have th ewrong compression ratio for a start, which means using 2 or 3 head gaskets to lower the compression. Not doing it properly in my eyes.
If you want to run a high boost aplication people have costed it up and it runs into the 1000's. And for that money its just easier to get a LET

personally ive never seen the cool factor with turboing a n/a engine. Your just gunna run into more problems than if you use a turbo'd engine that been developed to have a turbo on it

just becuase its different, doesnt mean its good. If it was better and cheaper more people would have done the conversion, but as its not they havent

Sounds like a great idea but as hamish has said may cost more than a LET. I may look into this later but have no common sense or value of money

if you have the money to do a 1.6 turbo then do it, you will need alot off it !
i would persoanlly have a mild tunned 2.0xe or c20let for the money
conversions are a doodle these days chris ashley does full fitting kits and good prices making these conversions a thing you can do with a socket set...and a few other bits
