There's been a knocking noise coming from the front of my car for the past few months and i've noticed that it stops when I put the brakes on. I looked at the brakes yesterday and noticed that the passenger side outer pad rattles around in the caliper. Its in no danger of falling out but I don't understand why its rattling round.
Any ideas?

Not at all, I only put them on a year or so ago.

does not really matter how long ago you put them on, depends how much use they've had.
strip it down and then build them back up.

Have you got the retaining clips on the calipers?
