linky

Bit stupid isnt it?

I see no problem getting local kids on board at a young age and keeping them in the acadamy, but getting a kid all the way from Australia is going a bit far

The likely hood that a decent player a 9 will actually turn out to be 'the next Rooney' is very slim. I knew loads of guys who were on PNE's books at that age and some of them were wanted by mainly Premiership clubs constantly, but not one of them ever made it past 16 as that bit of strength they had over the other players at 9 was lost come 16 when the rest caught up.

your too hard on yourself!

It wasnt really about United, they have seen a good player so takeing advantage of it. Was more to see if anyone else thinks its pointless getting players so young considering how much they will change before even getting close to singing thier first pro contract.

That Freddy Adu is another example.

At 14/15 (younger maybe?) he was being labelled as the next Pele, was going to be the best player in the world, etc.

But now he is 18 and playing full time against players older and bigger than him, that little extra pace and strength he had over other players at his young age has gone now and he is shite.

He's far from shite tbh but the labels he's been getting have held him back for sure.

well shite was an exaggeration But he has a piss poor season in a league where, if he was such a great player to-be, he would shine through easily.

They take on upto 20 kids of this age every year, then they decide what to do before they hit 12 years old. Whether they offer a scholarship or not.

Talent is natural but can be nurtured.

Really fail to see a problem with his system.

My problem isnt with taking kids at this age in general, its bringing them 11,000 miles over to the UK from Australia. I just dont see the point in getting anyone other than local kids at this age.

Ok when they get to 14/15 and you can have a bit more of an idea of what they will be like, but at 9

So what? If it pays off it pays off, if it doesn't then good experience for the lad either way.

The kid is happy to be here.

United are happy for him to be here.

I know this, but the vast majority dont have a choice about it

It just seems stupid to take the kid away from his mum and brothers/sisters at this age, when if he is going to be a good player then at 14/15/16 he will still be able to walk into any acadamy he chooses.

The training he will get at this age will be no different as he could probably get at a local acadamy type thing by him.

Just silly IMO.

You only have to look at the likes of the England School Boys etc. Thats boys at the age of 14/15/16 - At this level they rarely i.e. 1 every couple of years. Get someone that goes on to play for england.
5 years before that there is no way you are going to know

i wouldnt say so,

he'll be training with kids of his own ability instead of playing against kids who cant kick a ball, he'll be taught by top experianced coaches

and when he does turn 14/15/16 hes much more likely to be loyal to man utd because hes grew up in manchester and will he a big fan no doubt

its not pointless imo, weather he turns out to be first team quality or if he turns out a kieron richardson and we make 5m on him, then id be happy
