A lad and lass on my team are always talking about the rugby and how league is better than union, thats the only thing they agree on. He supports Leeds and she supports Bradford and are always arguing over whos better. I was out in town the other week and one of the lads we were with asked me if I followed it. He tried to explain the difference between League and Union to me, it made sense but I can't really remember! They've all said I should watch it when it comes on the tv.
So I've decided to give it a go. I'm not going to pick one of the winning teams though as thats obvious, and being a Man United fan the obvious choice seems to be Salford, even if they are rubbish and at the bottom!
I just need to understand the rules now!
I can see me giving up after reading up and catching games on the tv though

As much as I hate Egg Chasing (mainly because of all the wankers round here that support Bradford Bulls) but I have to say Rugby players are far from being Fat Bastards.
They are far far far more physically fit than footballers, and the game is much tougher on the body than football.
Still a shit game thats more like a circus that a sport though

Dont watch league its shite!
I used to play union when I was at school, played for Lancashire a few times when I was 15/16. And also played with Steven Borthwick who now plays for the current England team!

I love footy but also enjoy both forms of rugby. There is some league on tonight on skysports but not sure who. The rules are straight forward and you'll understand it by watching it!!

League is better IMO.
Much faster pace to the game, therefore more exciting. Plus they dont kick it back & forwards every 2 mins

IMO...League is all stop/start/stop/start..its boring.
Union is much more entertaining to watch, and certainly a lot better to play (I have played both being northern!!)

Much more kicking in League as you have to get rid after so many tackles. Proper played Union should have very few kicking.

Not really as when someone is tackled they can get up and play the ball within seconds. Rucks can last for 30secs plus where nothing is happening with just big fat blokes lying on top of each other.
As for kicking, yeah in League they have to kick after 5 tackles, but by this time the team are usually in a decent position and the kick can help set up a try. In union they, most of the time, just kick it out from within there own 20 meter line to get a throw-in up field instead of running it out.

Personally find it shallow and pedantic, rugby fields are a waste of grass that could have been used for football pitches imo.
