does that not say how tight the corner coming up is? like 1 being the tightest and 6 being almost straight so just flat out

yes, how tight the crner is, but to a driver 1 could be from a tight bend to a full 180,
so they expain it in gears, you need "x" gear for this corner...
1=harpin
top gear = flat out little bend

its true, he co-driver is suggesting the gear to use for the corner.

there are two gear sticks things are there not...a paddle shifter behind the wheel and the manuel in the middle...when the paddle is flicked the manuel moves to
and as said about the corners, i only know this because of the wrc games

I havent got a clue, co drivers techniques tend to vary, so Gaz' theory may be true to some. Just seems quite funny.

different co drivers use different code. ive done codriving before for a friend of mine, and it was just the corner rating. a rought estimate if you will of severity and speed, so would relate to gears.
but we also used ratings for exits and entrys, and road such as 'opens' or 'tight' or 'dip' etc

There's a manual system incase the other system fails, surely?

yes, correct
Wires can come loose etc, they cannot afford a simple mistake to fuck a rally up for them

Could well be a gear to use, it's not just the CD telling the driver, they both drive the stage on a recce beforehand so the driver will come up with the strategy for each corner, it's more of a reminder I guess to have pace notes, plus, as the name suggests, it gives an indication of where they should be on the course at a particular point.

its not the gear its the rating of the tightness of the corner
