I don't need any credit just that I've never had a credit card before and am worried that my credit rating is low. Hoping to secure a mortgage next year and need to bump it up before then.
Clear something up for me, if you pay the balance at the end of each month you don't pay any interest? Thats what I'm intending in doing? Do any companies offer incentives to sign up to them?
I really am clueless at this

So on this one, so long as I pay the balance at the end of each month it won't charge interest?

there is one from Egg you get 1% of your total purchases using the card from the whole year back. So basically buy everything on the card, pay it off at the end of the month and get nice little bonus at the end of the year (they refused me though, im only a student

Should I pay for the Purchase Protection Policy, bearing in mind I'm not going to be using it much??

Egg, for the reasons dannymccann put above. 1% for money you are spending anyway, winner

No, if you are definately going to pay it off then no need for protection. Even if in the worst case you lost your job, you just stop using the card, simple as.
