Toying with the idea of selling the golf & getting a derv as im doing lots of miles now. Whats to be had, not bothered if its a hatch, saloon, estate or 4x4, so long as it returns around 50mpg + & is comfy for a long run. air con would be nice.

Keep the Golf you homo... you'll regret selling it..
Only way mine is going is if I buy a house and I decide to get a company car..
Nothing better than an old mk2 spitting flames and breaking down daily.. oh yeh!

Colin, they are cool - but the engine is old technology - they wont get 50 to the gallon - VAG is really the way to go for a slightly older engine

Ive got money in the bank sahn, just dont want to spend it on a car atm.
I just want a cheap work hack, 2000> Diesel with semi decent spec. Not bothered about speed much.

Engine was 130 brake (poss 120) in the vectra, but would probs have been de-tuned for the frontera to improve low end torque (smaller turbo). How about a veccy SRi with the same engine? 16"s, half leather, aircon, and an easy 40-50 mpg i'd imagine.
The weight and 4wd of the frontera will sap economy and speed!

Youll see 44-45 out of that. Its also very heavy. Tbh, mix of motorway and town driving (odd thrash) I never saw more than 48mpg to a tank in the Ibiza. Used to be able to get 42 in the Corsa .
Concidered a A3/4, Passat/Golf? Can get some cracking ex-company deals - Full dealer service histories as well - maintained no matter the cost
