As the title says. My corsa is fine in the dry but in the wet...........lets just say i've had a few brown trouser moments

There isn't any grip at all. It understeerr and when excelerating and my standard 1.4 sport spins in third gear.
Before you lot say it's not because i'm speeding on these occaisons

Except for better tyres, what could fix this huge problem?

Other than better tyres, nothing, unless the tracking is out, so have that checked.

What tyres are you using just out of intrest?

The tyres are "jupiter radials"

The rears are wearing faster than the front even though i've done a swap. Also i get a juddering under sharp i.e. Motorway/carriageway braking.

That's your problem then.

Don't have tyres on the back which are more worn than the fronts either, you want the grip at the back, even if it means replacing the fronts...

good tyres try wide low pro's bit better grip wise but no corsa's really handle well in the wet, fwd cars all in all oversteer is a unstoppable problem, just try to take corners more controlled less harsh turning. or buy a 4wd car =)

Understeer you mean.

Better tyres mate. I remember driving mine in the wet on proper worn rears, scary stuff, was very twitchy.

It's actually the front that has no grip and understeers rather than the back, the back is actually fine in all conditions

Believe me, having more tread on the front wheels is not a good idea.

Your best bet is to put some new tyres on the worn ones, stick them on the front, leave the ones you have now on the wheels but put them on the back, and don't buy cheap tyres, get something better than Jupiters.

Std suspension is known to be crap and tbqh it wont be much if any better on just 40mm springs. Mine was like a boat on my 40mm springs.

Get coilovers (correctly set up) or a decent fixed suspension kit. Makes a big difference

The rears aren't THE problem, but they might catch you out if they're worn loads more than the fronts.

surely simply slowing down for corners and accelerating nice and slowly in third gear will stop you understeering or spinning in third gear..... we have some bog standard crap tyres on our sri and it never slides about, except when you accerlerate too hard or take a corner too fast, both things which are 100% avoidable

some right dumb ass comments in here..

low profile wider tyres will NOT make wet handling better
harder sprung/dampened suspension will NOT make wet handling better.

Get the tracking/alingment set up and decent tyres on.

You are also making it spin if you are getting a 1.4 to spin in 3rd... Simple cure is to stop nailing it through the gears.

This normaly happens on one of the abundent dodgy junctions on the A roads in my area. I see what you mean with not using some enthusiasm

i think tracking,surely spinning in third in a standard 1.4 sport cant be right unless you are slipping the clutch to death?this is not an invite for people to say "my 1.4 sport spins in every gear and it max's out at 150mph even with the drag from my burberry cap".
