Hey there. My GF is booking the car in for a service, Now BEFORE everyone says it, Im not doing it myself. I will probly change the air filter but thats it lol (i can do other stuff just havent got the time or the inclination).
Am i right in thinking the following DOES get done:
Air filter
Oil filter
Fuel filter
New oil
New coolant
This DOESNT get done
Gearbox fluid/oil
Brake fluid
Engine flush
Please correct as required and also should anything be getting done? Is it worth asking for other work to be carried out (please give ideas, nothing actually wrong with it afaik but if its worth getting someting checked will ask about it). Also, some people say on a 13 year old car you shouldnt get the engine flushed because it can unearth other problems, whereas some swear by them, could I have some opinion on this too?
Thanks v much

Depends when it was last serviced if it needs Gearbox fluid/oil, Brake fluid
Sounds like you just need the basic service
Different garages do different things brake pads disc's etc
Depends what you want spend, although i've never took a car be serviced in my life i just know people that have

Agree with daz about the service thing, dont think I would ever put a car to be serviced, always do it myself.
Anyways, thats all you need, unless your brakes are worn, then they might need changed.
Oh, perhaps the pollen filter?

cheers for that guys, any opinions on the engine flush business? its last service was over a year ago, although i cleaned the air filter not so long ago and i had a sump gasket put on so new oil went in then. Is it worth gettin the brake and gearbox fluids changed?
cheers

you're at uni, surely u shud have loads of time to do it you lazy students.haha.sorry!lol.i've heard that engine flush generally isnt a good idea, can often cause more problems than cure.i think brake fluid should be changed every 3 years (someone please correct me if necessary) as it starts to break down and therefore has a lower boiling point than what it should have.

a full service should include:
*oil + filter change,
*check condition of plugs, airfilter.
*check + inspect g/box level.
*lights/underbonnet levels/tyre pressures.
*clean, adjust, inspect rear brakes..
and a general safety check of the rest of the car.
fuel filters usually request only (unless its derv) - along with brake fluid change
