Cant really comment on the 106 as iv never had one.
But astra GSI are cracking cars, iv owned both a phase 1 and phase 2. Id personally go for another phase2 if i was to get another, as the bodywork holds up a lot better as it actually got protected well unlike the phase 1, and also the phase 2 looks much better with the irmscher kit!
Redtop engine is obviously the better engine out the two compared to the with the phase 2 gsi running a x20xe ecotec engine.
But a engine swap is simple, everything is the same, mounts, shafts, hubs etc. So its to a hard task to put the redtop in, or even a c20let if you are feeling brave.

Pic of my old phase 2

What are you looking for from the car mate? The 106 will be a better handling car that you can launch about better, but will be more uncomfortable. I personally would rather live with less refinement and go for the GTi

just generally a fun, exciting car. I have always been a fan of vauxhall's and love the astra's but i dont c the harm in trying something new which is why i fancy a GTI. do like vts's too but a little out of my budget and a little too common for my liking too. regarding the comfort, my corsa is lowered 60mm front and 90mm rear so im used to the uncomfortable ride!

Ditto. Guess it all depends on the area. Tbh you could buy one, and not like it, and just sell it on again S'all a learning curve my friend
