Well due to my matenow working in a local motor factor, his boss allows him to buy valeting gear for basically pennies.

we got the following

Meguiars endurance tyre gel --- £7.49
Meguiars hot shine tyre spray bottle --- £8.49
Turtle wax nano tech tyre gel --- £5.99
Turtle wax platinum tyre dressing --- £6.99
Turtle wax wet and black spray bottle --- £4.99
Simoniz back to black wet look spray bottle --- £4.99
Autoglym tyre dressing --- £5.49
Carplan tyre slik spray can --- £2.99

Some of you will probably think its pointless, but we got all this for £10, so we can easily sel it off. We are gona test all of them on a few mates cars to see which one lasts the longest.

I think we have got most of the tyre products out there which you can buy off the shelf in a local motor factor, the only ones we couldnt get was Armoral Tyre gel, and halfords own tyre dressing.

The Megs endurance stuff is shite. I think I might actually sue them under the trade description act. It only lasts a day and the shit sprays up the side of your car in about 5 seconds.

you could do with a dedicated tyre cleaner first, and really work the tyre walls with a brush before you apply any dressing products.

Im betting 85% of that lot last a couple of days, although there will be to many variables involved for you to get accurate results imo.

yes obviously the test wont be entirely accurate, all tyres though were cleaned with brushes and soapy water and rinsed and then left to dry.

we have got four cars, and each car has got two different gels on it, one on each side.

------

Results so far

After almost 2 days

Turtle wax wet and black - Tyre still looks black but the gel has just soaked into the tyre wall and does not give a wet look anymore.

Megs Enduro - mmmmm what can i say, it was the hardest one to put on out of the bunch, was one of the more expensive to buy.
It rained a little last night and it seems as though it has run off in the rain, the tyre does not really look like it has had a gel put on it tbh.

Carplan tyre slik - Same as the turtle wax one really, looks black but no longer looks wet.

all the other so far still have a shiny wet look to them

What if you don't like shiny tyres and prefer a clean matt look?

Ive got a few things which are much better than all the above imo.

i dont think thats ture about the megs stuff, if you put too much on then it will probly run off in the rain but once you have put it on use a rag to wipe the exess off and it will be fine for about 2weeks.

this is the stuff i use, try most and its the best imo, great on plastics when applyed the same way!

The megs Endurance stuff

I didnt put on to much at all, as its so bloody annoying to put on i was getting bored of doing it. Its too thick and sticky, and it takes ages to get it into the details around the tyre wall, all the other products go on so much quicker.

I found the best to be turtle wax spray bottle.

Don't spray it on though, put it on with a paintbrush.

only really doing the test to show people that maybe the top names are not the best.

i know alot of people get sucked in to the bigger names when using wax for example, so many people think Megs is good stuff, probably because its the most expensive one to buy in halfords.

ive used both Megs gold class and Megs next Gen. Compared to the cheaper Turtle wax platinum wax they are rubbish, but for some reason people think that turtle wax is rubbish without trying it first

Edd, ive always used turtle wax platinum or nano tech, not sure if there is really any difference between the two. i think the platinum is suposed to be thicker.

Its still going strong anyway in my test, though the Megs hot shine is also holding up

Greg, at christmas a few people got me some valeting bits, these included Megs gold class wax liquid. and Megs next gen wax paste.

I sent them back to Megs after using them, they were harder to buff off then turlte wax platinum and only kept there shine for around 2 weeks if that. I found i then had to wax the car again to get the shine back. With turtle wax i usually wax then wash the car around 2 weeks later and the shine is still there.

i think Megs gives ok results but not for the extra money they ask for it compared to other off the shelf products
