I believe you can but you will get arse rapped if the cops find you
Long term it cannot be good for a car though and your car will smell like a chip shop on wheels

I've always wondered if it would really do much harm if you just mixed 5 litres or so with a tank of proper diesel..........would still save a fortune eh but could still be damaging....not sure ???

I knew this would come up with prices rising lol.
Top gear did it with an old Volvo. They used a standard car and it went fine, but dont no about long term effects.
Also there is a limit on how much cooking oil you can buy, due to this. Dont remember what it is though. Go down your local chippy!

I'm also looking into this, well I've looked into it but I'm now looking for a diesel to test on.
Basicaly its down to your fuel pump, it must be a bosch one for best effect and not very noticeable as it reduces alot of smoke.
Currently MK3 Golf's use the bosch one and mk3 fiesta's do.
My friend runs his fiesta and corsa combo on it, heres the figures per full tank:
£5 Diesel + Top the rest up with veg oil.
He gets 5-600 miles per tank and fiesta tanks aint that big!
Used oil runs better i.e. from chip shop / takeaways and the best bit is you will get it free as it saves them paying to get it disposed of.
As for any damage it does, non at all, Diesel engines where first invented to run on Veg Oil, but of course the government had to take a stand hence the excessive prices of diesel.
Also with the better fuel pump (Bosch) your emissions will be a hell of alot lower than normal diesel, and also pass mot first time no quibbles
Hope thats helpfull to read i'll post up some links to some good reads about using it ..etc
Or go on you tube and search "Biodiesel" or anything along those lines, new 307 diesels are one of the best newest cars to use it with.
... And it runs even better on Turbo Diesels.
From my friend who runs this on both his cars;
"Engine runs alot smoother, more responsive and of course ALOT cheaper .. I get funny looks filling up at the cash and carry with a barrel of veg oil "
Only downside is; on a cold start morning it will take a little longer to start but once it does it's ready to go anywhere!
Hope this helps!

how strange i was about to put up a topic asking if anyone with a diesil doe sthe cooking oil trick.
Only because , i was in my local tesco the other day and i saw a bloke who lives down my road in there buying about 20 bottles.
When i saw him i made a joke about it and he said it was for his car and he has done it for a couple of years now.
Only thing, theres a few makes of cooking oil, would different ones make a difference

im no cook, is veg oil, cooking oil and olive oil the same thing.
Steve , slap some in your fabia.
When i get a diesil i may consider doing it, its about half the price of diesel and who gives a s++t what people think as long as you dont get caught

As far as I know it's all good
He'd save money and make the car run better if he got some barrels of USED oil from the takeaways / chipshops
Drain out the little bits and u've got the finest oil for free lol

Also you can make it legal by paying some tax and signing a form, although its hard to get caught out, police dont really care, mot testers cant tell, just goes by smell really if your using used oil.

You either need an extra tank for diesel or you need to do a blend if diesel and oil. There needs to be less oil than diesel in the blend so you can't get away with a fivers of diesel and the rest oil otherwise you'll kill your diesel pump and probably your injectors.

New oil is cheap enough too if you don't want to drive around smelling of a chippy

You can mess around blending like people do in the you tube videos.
Although my mate has been doing it for some years now and never once had a problem.
i.e. £5 to topping it up with oil
He's also done same with red diesel which i understand is another story...

This does work
but not on all diesels. Some VW diesels with fancy pumps won't like it. My old man ran on fiesta van on cooking oil for years and years

Was his method to mess around and blend it all in the garage/shed..etc
Or was it like my friend's been doing and put a bit of diesel in and rest with oil?

Well of course it works, when the diesel engine was invented it was designed to run on peanut oil. When petrol started being produced a by product was produced. It was about the same weight as peanut oil so they decided to call it diesel as it worked in the engine Rudolph Diesel designed.
