having uprated cams on standard pistons?

asked for a quote from Vsport (very quick and helpful) but its come to a large price. I asked for a quote including forged pistons - but ive been given a quote with 87.5mil pistons meaning it would nearly be a 2.1!

Can't you get forged pistons in 86mil? (Meaning i dont need a rebore and more cost ) because i thought you could

cheers

Standard pistons with bigger valve pockets is the way to do it, but forged pistons = higher compression ratio, which means more power

Does it? I always thought the point in buying forged pistons was you could choose the size and compression ratio you wanted?

Forged pistons for an XE will have a higher CR, whatever you buy.

Oh right, yeah forged pistons for an XE will only be available with high compression! Just confused me, I thought you meant all forged pistons increased the compression ratio of any engine!

the main reason for forged pistons isnt just the increase in bore size (they are available smaller than the size I quoted you) but the main advantage is reliablity and the raised compression ratio.

if you want to keep your standard pistons, thats fine as we can machine larger pockets to accept the bigger cams, however machining bigger pockets in standard cams actually lowers compression ratio so it can take away some of the advantage of fitting the bigger cams.

or a better idea is to let us design a cam that will go well with the standard pistions, keeping a decent duation but with less lift. best of both worlds then

well after sending many emails i think we've come to an agreement

my limit as said was 2k so i dont think i could get forged pistons as well as cams for that or under.

£500 for pistons, £300 for cams, that leaves £1200 for fitting and whatever else you need. You can do it, definitely.

a very tired standard xe with powercap, and the usual bolt on's.

Crank Casing is starting to go and theres a sticky valve or lazy tappet somewhere im thinking. So instead of just getting another valver, i though fook it get it rebuilt and i can just keep building on it.

machining the standard pistons doesn't necessarily mea you will ower the compression chamber as you would cc the engine and then make up for the loss by skimming the head.

i ran machined standard pistons in a x16xe and ran a 12.5:1 compression ratio for example

good prices for the work non-the-less
