as above, i was told only the 60GB can play PS2 games, but some one said the 40GB can aswell.
Do you have to install anything aswell or can you just put them straight in

As far as I know...
60GB can play PS2 and PS1 games.
40GB only plays PS1 games (downloaded from the PSN Store etc.)
I've yet to play an old game on my PS3 tho. I stopped playing them on PS2 out of boredom, the new machine won't make them any better.

the 40gb is wont play ps2 games, but sony are releasing a new smaller cheaper ps2 next year, as its still selling well apparently, just broke 120million ps2 console sales

it is still selling well because its still got good software support
developers find it cheap and easy to develop for and theres a potential 120million sales for each title released with such a wide user base

the 40gb is only backwards compatible with ps1 games which are downloaded and theres only about 8 of them
the good thing is though u can then play them on psp (via memory stick)
