right my mate's 1.4 16v sport timing belt snapped so he decided to replace engine, stuck a new engine in the timing belt snapped on this 1(yes he should have replaced it but funds were low)anyway it damaged only the top end bending 12-14valves,so he buys a head from another corsa sport 1.4 16v gets it fitted with new head kit and timing kit tensioners etc etc got it back friday just passed, and it sounds a bit like a diesel engine, theres a knocking coming from somwhere but its not the tappets,it has plenty of oil, water, and the engine top half does seem to get a little hot quickly, but the temp gauge sits at normal, its abit annoying as he has had no luck with, and how close is the timing sensor meant to be to the bottom pulley?as i was told it is to far away, can this cause the knocking?cheers for any help, the car starts, and runs perfect and has easy pulling power, hasnt taken it passed 3.5k revs as he dosnt know what this knocking is?

there was no previous knocking noise until the new head was fitted

Did you turn the cams in the head by hand to make sure the valves weren't stuck?

leave it running for a while. make sure it has plenty of oil, it could be that the hydraulic lifters have drained of oil and need to refil thier selves.

only way to tell for sure is by checking the shells. but i dont see how they would be fucked just by the belt breaking. when i said dammaged lower end i meant where the valves had hit the piston was the piston sitting lower than the others. other than this i dont think i can be of much help.
