I'll be playing a game... having fun... Then it's just like it gives up completely on spinning the CD... you hear the CD slow down and stop spinning...
Then game objects / scenery in game disapear... then a message comes up saying 'the CD is now unreadable... please clean it and restart the console' and the game ends, meaning anything you've done is lost and un saved 
Anyone else get this? it's fucking pissing me off.

most probably your game than the console, mine was fine.
have you tried cleaning the disk?

If it doesnt do this on the COD3 game that you got with it then its obviously Forza
It didnt do it with COD3 when i had it.....so its Forza

my gears of war disc used to do that. so i rented it from blockbuster and swapped the discs

it used to do that on my forza, i cleaned it with t-cut and its boss now

t-cut?  mine does it with PES2006, Forza occasionally, thats the only 2 games i play so yea it fucks up both my games, then gives me a lovely circle scratch for my trouble

Out of interest... the people who it does it to... do you have the console standing up right or lying flat on it's belly?
I have mine upright and think it's to do with that maybe?
I just don't understand why it sorta gives up Lazy fuck.
Did it earlier when I was on xbox live racing... the track disapeared... heard CD stop spinning... then went around the next bend (just following the other cars lol) and then it spun back up and it all started appearing again.
Probably is my forza 2 cd, looks pretty scratched up.

I have this all the time and it lying down as you can hear the Disk catching every now and agian when its standing up.

I have no room to have it lying down
This year I'm living in a shoe box of a room, it's tiny... I just about found space for the xbox 360 by pushing the printer off the edge of a set of draws.
But if you guys are being serious (as I sometimes hear the CD catch and shit too) - then I'll maybe have to find somewhere else to put it.

I bought it in my 1st year of uni... it's big, bulky, and crap... not even HD!

get a nice cheap HD LCD and you will have more room to put your xbox on.
