Asus and Acer (IIRC) both do whitebox type thingies that you can then build up yourself.
As hard as hens teeth to find though...if you do let me know and wouldnt mind this myself.

Not having a lot of luck finding them anymore. Might just have to get an HP or something, which is a bit gay as they market them towards idiots who don't mind paying shit loads of money for somthing that isn't that special Though every time I go into a computer shop I get more and more tempted by a Mac Book. Gay.

They are seriously tempting me. Which is worrying because I used to hate Apple stuff, well only because of the whole iPod thing doing my head in.
The only problem would be is I would need to run Windows on it for a few apps, but I could dual boot it I guess....

You could run Virtual PC on it too if you didnt want to dual boot.

Or Parallels with the new Intel Macs, which is a better way of doing the same thing.

Is there any loss in performance doing that?

Look at Dells, very good value for money and if anything does go wrong the support is better than the competition imo.

Yes, although less than you'd get on an older Mac.
Parallels is a similar way of running Windows on a Mac, but it runs much faster.

Not too keen on Dell laptops. Can't seem to get the spec I want on them as they put the right hardware and OS on the XPS, but too small a screen and a poverty spec graphics card to match. On the other models you get the right size screen and a good graphics card, but the wrong o/s.
Can't seem to win.

surely you would just put what ever OS you want on the system, it's the spec you should be buying one for

Well not really, I don't really seem to think it's a good idea to buy a computer which doesn't have the right software on it in the first place if you are going for a ready built system, but I guess it's an option though...

Aslong as you can get the drivers (from manufacturers website etc) then i don't see the problem, especially if you're looking for a specific/or certain spec'd machine.
